Hello and welcome to my website! Here you can find some random tidbits about me, links to various places to purchase my amazing books, ways to contact me, and a blog where I will sometimes ramble away! So wander around, explore, don't keep your arms in the car at all times, and do pet/feed the animals. They are friendly...except for that moose over there. He ate a child last week. One bite and the kid was gone. It was odd and we all try not to make eye contact with the moose anymore. He looks twichy. But anyway, I would like to say thank you. It means a lot to me, with all the other internet things you could be doing, you opted to stop by here. That is simply the nicest thing you could ever do for me. Your gold star is in the mail!

Review: Red State (2011)

I have wanted to watch this movie ever since I first heard about it. I fully planned on buying it but Brian beat me to the punch. Shoot. I will just slide my money back in my pocket.

To me, it felt like this was two movies that were blended together. The first part of the movie was about 3 high school friends who take a little road trip to bang some 38 year old the one has been talking to on the internet. The second part was about an ATF agent trying to take down a religious cult. And what blended the two movies together was that religious cult...oh sorry, I mean family. I don't want to offend them. They were a family that believed all homosexuals where tools of Satan and they had to be killed. Nobody in the town that the family lived took them seriously and everyone pretty much hated them. The ATF had been loosely watching them because they had purchased some guns and asked the seller how to modify the weapons...so they had the possibility of being a threat but really most people just saw them as cookoo nuts.

Going into the movie all I knew was that it was a Kevin Smith movie and it was supposed to be nothing like other Kevin Smith movies. And for the most part, I don't think it was. I say "most part" cause in the beginning of the movie there is a sequence that takes place in a car. Something about the way the car was shot made me think "This is a Kevin Smith movie." I don't know why, I can't place my finger exactly on it, but that is what I thought.

All in all, I did like this movie. Quite a bit actually because it is the kind of movie that does bother me because there are really people like that out there...people that are so wrapped up in their believes that you can't reason with them. And if you are against them then you are wrong and you deserve to die. That is what is truly scary about this movie. It is kind of like watching The Human Centipede...you don't see everything that is happening, but you sit there during the movie and think about it and that is what ends up scaring you.

What I really loved about this movie was all the things that happened that you didn't expect. I am not going to go into exactly what as I don't want to spoil it for you, I am just not that kind of girl. But there were so many things that happened that I fully did not think would happen. I do think the overall ending of the movie is what I expected, but some of those events leading up to it where like "WHAT?!"

Also what I loved about this movie; John Goodman looking so much better than he ever did on Roseanne or The Flintstones. And yes I know he has done other things than Roseanne and The Flintstones, I am just using those as examples so get off my back. I am so happy for him that he has been able to get healthier and seeing him that way in the movie was fantastic. Dude can act so yah for him!

As with all Kevin Smith movies, you either feel it or you don't. Even with this movie not being like his other movies, it still has that vibe. So if you enjoy the works of Mr. Smith, go watch it. If you don't, keep it on the shelf for someone else. Like me. Cause I thought it was great.

Favorite Part: Near the end of the movie there is a scene between John Goodman and his ATF higher-ups: Patrick Fischler and Damian Young. They are discussing exactly what went down and what will happen now. I love the dry acting of Patrick and Damian for this entire scene but what is great is John's lines "People just do the strangest things when they believe they're entitled. But they do even stranger things when they just plain believe." Sums it all up nicely right there!
