I have wanted to watch this movie since it came out, but like most films I mostly forgot about it. It isn't that I don't want to support the poor cash strapped Hollywood and see all movies in the theater, it is more that unless I am painfully excited to see a movie (ex: The Muppets) I will just try and file the movie away in my brain until it comes out on DVD. And that is exactly what I did with this one.
I could break off into a whole other discussion here about how I would rather buy a DVD than rent it. I have no idea why I am like that, it is not like I am growing money over here. Maybe it can be traced to if I am spending money I want to have something to show for it. You can't keep a rented item therefore the $2 or whatever is gone forever. But spending $20 on a DVD that you get to keep makes perfect sense.
And to further get off track, I didn't buy Bad Teacher. My fella Brian did. So I contributed nothing to this movie.
Anyway, Bad Teacher is about a teacher who is bad. HaHa. That is all the plot you get. But really folks, it is about a teacher who doesn't really want to teach, she just wants a man to support her so she doesn't have to do anything except spend his money. And when her money train leaves her, she is forced to teach and find a way to get what she really wants in life...a free ride.
Going into the movie, I expected to have fun just because I hate kids. A movie about a teacher who doesn't care about kids? Sold, I'm there. Now to all my friends out there that have kids...my hate of kids does not apply to your kids. I love your kids because they are tiny yous and I love you. It is all the kids that belong to people I don't know that I hate. So the movie did not let me down with the teacher's non caring attitude to the children. She was excellent, a true role model to me.
The movie did have me laughing for just about all of it. Was it the same kind of hard crying belly laughing like The Hangover or Superbad? No. So it had some room for funny to grow. But it was funny and the actors didn't have to try too hard to get the jokes across. It had a very easy feel which I do love. And Cameron Diaz really did a great job playing a character that really you never fully like but are happy for them in the end.
What also really worked for this movie is that it didn't follow the standard teacher movie format: teacher hates job and wants something more, teacher starts bonding with the kids, and teach becomes teacher of the year and realizes how much they love teaching. None of that happened in the movie and I was very happy with the flow of the movie and how it ended. The whole film isn't very long and that works for it too cause the filmmakers probably took good care in cutting out all the fluff. I watched it last night and I am now trying to think of times the movie dragged...can't think of a one.
Chances of me buying this movie and watching it again are high. Chances of me just borrowing it from my man are even higher...well once I get a Blu Ray player that is.
Favorite Part: Okay, really I have two favorite parts. The first is the character played by Phyllis Davies. I LOVE The Office so seeing Phyllis in a movie makes me excited. And she did not disappoint. I don't think I have a favorite scene with her because they were all fantastic when she was on the screen. My second favorite part was Justin Timberlake's character sitting down at a bar concert to sing a song and saying that it was his first attempt at songwriting. And when he opened his mouth and sang that awful terrible song it was great just because we all know what a great musician he really is. Yeah, I said that. You gonna take away my metalhead card? You have to catch me first!!
Website for Katy Davidson: the lovely, brilliant indie author/publisher and all around awesome chick.
Hello and welcome to my website! Here you can find some random tidbits about me, links to various places to purchase my amazing books, ways to contact me, and a blog where I will sometimes ramble away! So wander around, explore, don't keep your arms in the car at all times, and do pet/feed the animals. They are friendly...except for that moose over there. He ate a child last week. One bite and the kid was gone. It was odd and we all try not to make eye contact with the moose anymore. He looks twichy. But anyway, I would like to say thank you. It means a lot to me, with all the other internet things you could be doing, you opted to stop by here. That is simply the nicest thing you could ever do for me. Your gold star is in the mail!
